Victor Meza Post-Fight Interview

Q: You are known as a good ground fighter but you really struggled in that department tonight. Are you disappointed in how you fought on the ground in this fight?

Victor Meza 01

Meza: I didn't stick to my game plan tonight. I should have stayed on my feet and knocked him out instead of going to the ground with him. He just laid on top of me. He never hurt me. But I should have just exchanged with him and I would have won the fight. It was a mistake on my part.

Q: What did the referee say about that knee? (when De La Cruz was down)

Meza: I hit him with a knee and he went down. I caught him with another knee and the referee said he was down. I didn't think he was but he had a better vantage point than I did. I felt it was a clean blow.

Q:What is your mindset now that you lost your first fight?

Meza: I never had to deal with a loss before. I don't think he beat me. I think I beat myself. Like I said I should have just stood him up. I train with much better stand up fighters than him. I just went away from my game plan and did something dumb that I shouldn't have done. I apologize to all of my fans. I fucked up. That's all I can say. This shouldn't have happened but I will come back strong. I'm sorry to all of my fans out there.

After getting outpointed all night long, put into various deep chokes, armbars and an omoplata, escaping from each miraculously, and knocked down cleanly after the illegal knee with a straight right, Meza sure like to run his mouth...
